When Tyler and I first purchased our home three years ago, we had no idea that our future would involve four children, with three of them being less than two years old. We always prayed for a big family, and God surely delivered!
We made the practical decision while we were house-hunting, and purchased a three bedroom home in an adorable neighborhood.
Less than six months after closing on our house, we learned we were expecting the twins. No problem – they’ll share a room. Lily of course would keep her very own big girl room.
Then when the twins were around seven months old, we got the news we were expecting our surprise miracle baby! Remember earlier when I said we bought a three bedroom house?! Yeah. Me too.
Instantly I started to think about all of the options. Do we renovate?! Do we sell our house?! Then I reminded myself to slow down, that babies are small, and they really don’t need as much space as we often think they do.
I wrote this blog post with the intention of sharing how we will make use of the space we have in our current home once our new little babe arrives.
Sometimes as mamas we think that the anticipated arrival of a new baby means we need to go out and buy a brand new big house – but I promise, you really don’t need to do that. Get creative, use your resources, and make use of small spaces. Save yourself the stress and the money.
This bassinet was mine as a baby, and my precious mama held onto it for all of these years. She had a new mattress made for it and we gave it a good wipe down. It was perfect. I knew I had to have it when the twins were born, and they took turns napping in it during the day in their Snuggle Me Organics.
Even once the twins transitioned into the nursery, I still kept this bassinet in our bedroom. Maybe a part of me subconsciously knew we would need it again sooner rather than later.
So, here it is.
The best bassinet in the coziest little nook.
I’ll thrift a small dresser and refinish it – similar to the one we have in the twins’ nursery and add that to our room to hold a few baby essentials. We will also move a rocking chair in here so I can easily nurse at night.
